Adam Grant wrote a whole book on this: Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success.
The three reciprocity styles he discusses:
Takers: People who try to get as much as possible from others and look out only for themselves.
Matchers: People who try to trade evenly, operating on a “scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” mindset.
Givers: People who contribute value to others without expecting anything in return.
The least successful professionals include many givers, because they can get exploited without getting anything in return.
The most successful professionals ALSO include many givers. Successful givers build deeper, broader networks, boost team productivity, and create a positive ripple effect without letting others take advantage of them.
But you got to give first.
My shirts apparently fail the Turing Test because people ask me if they are AI generated.
Yes they are real shirts! If you see me walking around I’ll probably be wearing one of them.
You can buy any of my shirt designs, or even better, create your own, on Zazzle.
