Overview

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, is a major federal IT and mission-services integrator that has supported government AI implementations for over two decades — and has now made AI, cyber, and mission software the center of its growth strategy. In 2025 GDIT expanded dedicated Centers of Excellence in these areas, with an AI Center of Excellence (led by VP of AI and Data Insights Dave Vennergrund) explicitly focused on AI/ML, generative AI, and agentic AI to build ‘rapid, repeatable, proven solutions’ for defense, civilian, healthcare, and intelligence missions. Its flagship AI asset is Luna, one of nine GDIT ‘Digital Accelerators.’ Importantly for an AI-policy audience, GDIT has joined NIST’s AI Safety Consortium, contributing technical expertise to standards for AI risk management, capability evaluation, transparency, and safety — using Luna to assess large language models, analyze training data, and identify risks. That places GDIT not just among the government’s AI builders but among the firms helping shape how federal AI is evaluated and governed.

AI-Focused Regulatory Work

GDIT’s 2025–26 arc shows a defense integrator institutionalizing AI as core infrastructure. Its expanded Centers of Excellence are, as one analysis put it, ‘not academic research labs’ but operational hubs delivering repeatable mission solutions — and GDIT has stacked partnerships to feed them. It deepened its collaboration with Google Public Sector to bring ‘mission edge AI’ to the tactical edge, integrating its AI Digital Accelerator with Google Distributed Cloud (a ruggedized ‘cloud-in-a-box’ authorized to operate at the Secret level / DoD Impact Level 6) and demonstrating it at Exercise Mobility Guardian 2025, the Air Force’s premier Indo-Pacific exercise, to support air-mobility operations offline at the edge. In March 2026 it partnered with agentic-AI firm Seekr to build secure, trusted agentic solutions — combining SeekrFlow with GDIT’s Eclipse and Luna accelerators to bring autonomous, adaptive AI into the Security Operations Center of the future. And GDIT’s ‘Agentic AI for Customer Experience’ work applies the same technology to civilian service delivery, deploying digital agents that complete tasks independently ‘with human oversight’ while preserving accountability. Threaded through all of it is a governance posture: membership in the NIST AI Safety Consortium, use of Luna to evaluate models and training data, and repeated emphasis on human oversight and secure, mission-appropriate deployment. For a directory reader, GDIT represents the cleared, defense-and-intelligence integrator layer where agentic AI is being fielded at the tactical edge — and where the governance question is not academic but operational, because the systems are going into live military and national-security missions.

Notable AI Policy Work

  • Expanded dedicated AI, Cyber, and Mission Software Centers of Excellence (2025), with an AI CoE (led by Dave Vennergrund) focused on AI/ML, generative AI, and agentic AI for defense, civilian, healthcare, and intelligence missions.
  • Built Luna, one of nine GDIT ‘Digital Accelerators,’ used to assess large language models, analyze training data, and identify AI risks — and joined NIST’s AI Safety Consortium to help shape federal AI safety and evaluation standards.
  • Expanded its Google Public Sector collaboration for ‘mission edge AI,’ integrating its AI accelerator with Google Distributed Cloud (authorized at the Secret level / DoD Impact Level 6) and demonstrating it at Exercise Mobility Guardian 2025.
  • Partnered with agentic-AI firm Seekr (March 2026) to build secure, trusted agentic solutions — combining SeekrFlow with GDIT’s Eclipse and Luna accelerators for the Security Operations Center of the future.
  • Fields ‘Agentic AI for Customer Experience’ — digital agents that resolve government service requests independently while preserving human oversight and accountability across civilian and health agencies.
