Umbrex is pleased to welcome James Thomson with Equity Value Advisors.  James is an advisor to brand executives & investors who seek guidance on how to accelerate ecommerce revenues and to align their overall distribution and pricing strategies. He is the former Chief Strategy Officer of Buy Box Experts, a 300-person managed services agency supporting brands selling online. He served as the head of Amazon Services (recruiting tens of thousands of sellers annually to the Amazon marketplace), and as the first Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) account manager. Prior, James was a management consultant and commercial banker.

In 2015, James co-founded the PROSPER Show, a continuing education conference for large Amazon sellers. In 2017, he published the book “The Amazon Marketplace Dilemma”, designed for brand executives seeking to optimize their distribution strategy on Amazon. In 2020, he co-authored the book “Controlling Your Brand in the Age of Amazon”, designed for brand executives struggling to turn the Amazon channel into a positive component of their brands’ overall growth flywheel.

James holds an MBA from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. in Marketing (B2B Pricing & Distribution) from Northwestern University. He has guest lectured at more than a dozen business schools, including Stanford, Northwestern, University of Michigan, Cornell, and Dartmouth. James has been featured more than 400 times in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Wired, Forbes, Washington Post, Entrepreneur, Inc, Business Insider, CNBC, Bloomberg and NPR.
