Umbrex, a global community of independent management consultants with prior experience at top-tier firms, is pleased to welcome our newest member, Arthur Plews. Arthur is a cross-functional leader with experience in venture-backed fintech and as a senior government official under two Presidents. He was most recently appointed by President Biden to serve as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Small Business Administration, a role he held through the end of President Biden’s term in January 2025. During his tenure he directed implementation of $1.2 trillion in emergency relief to millions of small businesses and non-profits across the country.
Prior to the Biden Administration, Arthur worked in strategy and operations for Stripe, leading initiatives across multiple company functions and product areas during a period of rapid growth. He has also led tech and policy initiatives focused on small businesses under President Obama, served corporate and government clients as a management consultant with McKinsey and Company, and worked in international human rights at the State Department and the United Nations.
He is a graduate of Yale Law School and Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs.
