Krzysztof Siuda identifies the signs of a resilient personality with a touch of humility.
A sneak peak into our research on resilience with HuMetrica: Resilient people don’t pretend they have all the answers, they ask for opinions early.
Easier said than done, it requires:
– Self-awareness so I know what I don’t know
– Vulnerability to say “I don’t know” in front of people
– Curiosity to ask “how would you do this?”
Reminds me a new task I was on to as an analyst, when I spent the whole night analyzing data for (what I thought) was a very important meeting. After 2h of sleep I showed up next day in the office with my hair all over the place and look of despair.
– What happened? – a colleague asked me, so I described the task I was doing all night
– Oh, so you don’t know what a pivot table is? I’ll show you, takes 5 minutes…
I never asked the question at that time, but now whenever something takes more than 1h I invest time to think and talk to others on how I can do it differently.
Ask early!
