Raising Awareness on Men’s Mental Health

Eric Tribe takes a moment to share statistics on men’s mental health and a few suggestions on how to help.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this.

There’s no easy segue into it, but men’s mental health is easy to miss.

It rarely looks the way we expect. It might show up as silence, stress, or overachievement. Or not show up at all.

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.

Many won’t talk about it, even with the people closest to them.

Last week, I walked 34,000 steps. Each one represents a man lost to suicide in the U.S. every year. No headphones. No podcasts. Just walking and thinking.

The challenge was started by Tim Perreira, who’s literally walking across the country to raise awareness. I joined for one day, in my own quiet way.

𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁.

I’m sharing this to keep attention on something that often stays in the dark. Maybe it means something to you too.

If it resonates, here are a few ways to take part:

  • Walk 34,000 steps
  • Donate to support men’s mental health (will put link in comments)
  • Reach out to someone you’ve been thinking about
  • Or share your own story, if and when it feels right

And yes, the photo says 31.8K, you caught me. I forgot to start the tracker. It’s been that long since I did a workout that needed one.

Thanks again for reading.
