Strong judgement is still needed in a time of AI and I am starting OPTA
Over the past few years, I have seen firsthand how AI is reshaping consulting. Its impact is undeniable: from strategy development to execution, AI is dramatically changing how quickly we can generate insights, structure problems, and evaluate options.
This shift reinforces the importance of judgment.
AI is exceptionally good at producing relevant, well-structured options. What it cannot do is fully account for the unique context of each organization. Decisions still require experience, perspective, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
Don’t get me wrong – large consulting teams are relevant, particularly in crises or major transformations where execution horsepower matters. But I have recently seen how many organizations have been looking for something different: focused, senior guidance on a small number of high-impact decisions without larger teams producing exhaustive analyses.
That is the gap I am stepping into.
After 15 years in technology strategy consulting, the last 8 at BCG, I am starting OPTA, working independently as an advisor to CIOs, CDOs, and their leadership teams on technology cost optimization, operating model design, and tech investment decisions.
Until now, I worked closely with leadership teams on some of their most complex, high-stakes calls. I am looking forward to continuing that work in a more focused and direct way.
