Terrance Berland shares a video of a presentation from the Project Controls Expo 2024 where he offers insights into developing effective AI strategies for project controls that are still relevant today.
So I want to start the presentation with a quote uh from a very famous architect, one of my favorites, Frank Lloyd Wright who said you can use an eraser on the drafting table or you can use a sledgehammer on the construction site um obviously what he’s getting at is what I think this entire presentation will be about which is the more you think about what you want up front the less you have to fix it at the back end. And I think it’s really important to think through that especially in the world of AI because there’s so much there that you can touch that you can put in place and then you can take back out because it wasn’t exactly what you wanted. So, we’re going to talk about three main things in this conversation.
One is that AI Is For Real. It’s here to stay. What it means is going to continue to evolve but the topic is not going away. That said, this concept of measuring twice before cutting once is every bit as applicable to this concept as any other and you know I go back to some of the very large ERP implementations that I think organizations experienced back in the 80s and 90s.
They had hundred million dollar applications that when they finally got put in missed so many things that ultimately they never got anywhere near the return on investment that they wanted to. That doesn’t have to happen here, and lastly what we are going to argue, and it may be a counter stance, or may not, is that the way you need to explore this topic is on a focus on outcomes as opposed to capabilities. So, we have a kind of negative reaction at loadspring to this concept of the art of the possible because that’s not what you’re interested in is the possible what you’re interested in is the Practical and the thing that will specifically help you in what you’re dealing with right now, and so we have an orientation and approach for how we think about that which is all part of the presentation.
So, let’s first talk a little bit about just about loadspring because I don’t know how many of you know load spring is an organization so our mission and this is something we just refreshed with our management team back in July I think right is to be an organization that empowers other organizations to achieve unparalleled success in shaping the world’s Global infrastructure project to do that what we believe is that we need to be able to provide those organizations with a tool set and a technology ecosystem that allows them to make better decision. If they make better decisions then projects will go better. If projects go better, the world’s infrastructure gets built and frankly this is something that I think everybody now is finally starting to talk about, which is we are going to have to rebuild and build the world’s Global infrastructure.
