Targeted matching, not random browsing: You explain the problem, constraints, and success metrics. Umbrex narrows to consultants who have done the specific work before, and who can start when you need them.
Big-firm training across a full range of seniority: Business Analyst, Associate, Engagement Manager, Associate Partner, and Partner. The majority have prior experience at a top-tier global consulting firm, so they bring structured problem solving and executive-ready communication.
Bias for action, consultants who will do the work: Not just slides. Independent consultants roll up sleeves, build analysis, create materials, run the workplan, align stakeholders, and help implement.
Flexible engagement models: Part-time 1 to 2 days per week, full-time 5 days per week, interim, fractional. One consultant or a small team. A bespoke solution based on the job to be done.

Global theme parks and conventions. Home to Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando, the region powers a year-round visitor economy and creative services base. The Orange County Convention Center attracts major trade shows that support a deep hospitality, events, and experiential marketing ecosystem.
Modeling, simulation, and training leadership. Orlando anchors a nationally recognized cluster around Team Orlando at Naval Support Activity Orlando and the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Simulation and Training. Defense primes and software firms develop mission rehearsal, medical simulation, and immersive technologies used worldwide.
Space-adjacent aerospace ecosystem. Proximity to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station links local engineers, suppliers, and logistics providers to launch operations and spacecraft integration. The region supports commercial space, avionics, and advanced manufacturing tied to the Space Coast.
Health and digital innovation districts. Lake Nona Medical City concentrates academic medicine, research, and sports performance with the UCF College of Medicine, Nemours Children’s Hospital, and a VA Medical Center. Creative media, gaming, and AR/VR capabilities grow around UCF, Full Sail University, and Orlando’s downtown tech community.
Employers that partner with Umbrex choose Orlando for a combination of connectivity, talent, and sector depth.
Orlando’s economic story begins with geography. Set amid a chain of inland lakes on the Central Florida ridge, the area offered high ground for settlement and cattle grazing, plus fertile soil for citrus. The U.S. Army established Fort Gatlin in 1838 to secure the frontier, and a small trading post grew nearby. Early commerce centered on cattle, timber, and citrus groves that benefited from the region’s warm winters and access to overland trails linking the St. Johns River basin to points west.
Railroads unlocked the city’s first growth surge. In the 1880s, the South Florida Railroad connected Orlando to Sanford and Tampa, giving growers and merchants reliable access to markets and ports. Packing houses, cold storage, and freight services clustered around the tracks, and the town developed a retail and services core to support surrounding farms. The Great Freeze of 1894–95 devastated citrus and forced diversification, but it also catalyzed investment in new groves, real estate, and small-scale manufacturing as Orlando adapted.
By the early twentieth century, Orlando promoted itself as a winter destination, attracting hotels, land investors, and seasonal visitors. Aviation activity intensified during World War II with training installations that established an enduring defense presence. Pinecastle Army Airfield evolved into McCoy Air Force Base, and military contracts supported local suppliers, technical training, and a growing civilian workforce. These assets laid the groundwork for later strengths in aviation maintenance and systems engineering.
The Space Age reshaped Central Florida in the early 1960s when NASA developed Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral. In 1963, Florida Technological University was founded in Orlando to supply engineers and scientists to the aerospace effort. Defense-related training and simulation operations consolidated in the city, and the Orlando area research park model took hold, linking federal commands, universities, and private industry. This period forged the modeling, simulation, and training cluster that remains a defining pillar of the regional economy.
Another pivotal shift arrived with the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971, which transformed Orlando into a global tourism capital. Interstate 4 improved regional connectivity, and after the closure of McCoy Air Force Base in 1975 the site became Orlando International Airport, enabling international visitor flows and cargo logistics. The Orange County Convention Center opened in 1983, anchoring a powerful meetings and trade-show market. Subsequent attractions and resorts broadened the hospitality supply chain, from design and construction to food systems, entertainment technology, and retail operations.
Since the 1990s, Orlando has deliberately diversified. The closure of Naval Training Center Orlando in 1999 was offset by the consolidation of Team Orlando and continued expansion of simulation and defense commands at Research Park. Higher education grew, and creative media and game development matured around UCF and Full Sail University. Lake Nona Medical City took shape in the mid-2000s, adding academic medicine, a children’s hospital, a VA Medical Center, and sports performance facilities that support biotech, health IT, and human performance startups. Infrastructure continued to advance, including SunRail’s launch in 2014, modernization of the I-4 corridor, expansion of Orlando International Airport with a new terminal, and Brightline’s extension to Orlando in 2023. Today the economy blends visitor-driven industries with aerospace, logistics, healthcare, and digital sectors, creating cross-industry opportunities that Umbrex clients leverage for growth and transformation.
