What You Will Learn
You will learn how to use Gemini to create a company research table for market mapping, including competitors, acquisition targets, market segment, geography, customer type, product category, notes, confidence level, and review status.
Required Dataset
Use the workbook from Lesson 53.
Use:
Company_List
Company_Enrichment
Create three new tabs:
Company_Research_Table
Market_Map_View
Research_Check
Before You Start
Start with the enriched company list from Lesson 53. The goal is to turn basic company enrichment into a structured market mapping fact base.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1. Create research fields
In Company_Research_Table, create fields for:
Company Name
Website
Company Description
Market Role
Market Segment
Geography
Headquarters Country
Customer Type
Product Category
Business Model
Ownership Type
Acquisition Relevance
Acquisition Rationale
Source / Evidence
Confidence Level
Review Needed
Research Notes
Use controlled values where possible. For example, Market Roles can include incumbent, challenger, niche specialist, emerging vendor, partner, or potential acquisition target.
Step 2. Ask Gemini to enrich the table
Open Gemini and enter:
Act as a market mapping consultant.
Use the Company_Research_Table tab.
Objective: Enrich each company for market mapping.
Add market role, market segment, geography, customer type, product category, business model, ownership type, acquisition relevance, rationale, evidence, confidence level, and review-needed status.
Rules:
– Do not invent facts.
– Treat acquisition relevance as a hypothesis, not a recommendation.
– Use Needs Review when evidence is weak.
– Keep notes concise.
Paste Gemini’s output into the table.
Step 3. Create a market map view
In Market_Map_View, summarize companies by market segment, geography, market role, and acquisition relevance. Use a pivot table, QUERY, or COUNTIFS.
Ask Gemini:
Summarize the Company_Research_Table by market segment, geography, market role, and acquisition relevance. Identify research gaps and rows needing review.
Expected Result
You should have a structured company research table that supports market mapping and a summary view that shows where companies are concentrated by segment, geography, and role.
Check Your Work
Confirm that company names and sources are preserved, categories are standardized, acquisition relevance is clearly labeled as a hypothesis, and low-confidence rows are flagged.
Optional Extension
Ask Gemini:
Create a competitor positioning matrix from Company_Research_Table. Include company, segment, customer type, product category, scale tier, positioning summary, evidence, and confidence level.
