What You Will Learn
You will learn how to use Gemini to create base, upside, and downside scenarios for revenue, margin, headcount, expenses, and EBITDA.
Required Dataset
Use the FinanceCo_PL_Dataset.
Use these tabs:
Monthly_PL
Budget
Create three new tabs:
Scenario_Assumptions
Scenario_Model
Scenario_Check
Before You Start
Copy the latest month of actual results from Monthly_PL. Use it as the baseline for the scenario model.
Include baseline values for:
Revenue
Gross Margin %
Sales & Marketing % of Revenue
R&D % of Revenue
G&A % of Revenue
Headcount
EBITDA
Create three scenarios:
Downside
Base
Upside
Each scenario should have assumptions for revenue growth, margin, expense ratios, and headcount growth.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1. Ask Gemini to structure the model
Use this prompt:
Act as a finance and strategy consultant.
Create a simple scenario analysis model using Scenario_Assumptions and Monthly_PL.
Build Downside, Base, and Upside cases for revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, headcount, EBITDA, EBITDA margin, and revenue per employee.
Return recommended assumptions, formulas, outputs, and QA checks. Treat scenarios as planning cases, not forecasts.
Step 2. Create scenario assumptions
In Scenario_Assumptions, list assumptions for each case. For example:
Downside: lower revenue growth, lower margin, higher expense ratios
Base: moderate growth and stable margins
Upside: stronger growth, better margin, operating leverage
Step 3. Build the model formulas
In Scenario_Model, calculate projected revenue:
=Baseline_Revenue*(1+Revenue_Growth_Assumption)
Calculate gross profit:
=Revenue*Gross_Margin_%
Calculate operating expenses:
=Revenue*Expense_Ratio
Calculate EBITDA:
=Gross_Profit-Sales_And_Marketing-R&D-G&A
Calculate EBITDA margin:
=IFERROR(EBITDA/Revenue,””)
Calculate revenue per employee:
=IFERROR(Revenue/Headcount,””)
Step 4. Ask Gemini to interpret the scenarios
Use this prompt:
Interpret the Scenario_Model tab. Compare Downside, Base, and Upside cases. Identify key differences in revenue, EBITDA, margin, headcount, and productivity. Highlight assumptions that management should review.
Expected Result
You should have a simple scenario model showing how different assumptions affect revenue, expenses, EBITDA, margin, and productivity.
Check Your Work
Confirm that baseline values tie to source data, assumptions are visible, formulas are consistent across scenarios, and Gemini does not describe scenarios as predictions.
Optional Extension
Ask Gemini:
Create executive-ready scenario headlines with supporting evidence, key assumptions, risks, and management questions for each scenario.
