2  One‑Sentence Purpose Statement
Answers “Who is doing what, when—and where tasks overlap or drive the critical path?”

3  Visual Description (Designer Instructions)

  • Use a 16 × 9 canvas with a light grid background. The vertical axis lists work‑streams (one per row); the horizontal axis is a dated scale segmented into equal column widths (days, weeks, or months).
  • For each work‑stream row, draw a horizontal bar showing the planned start and finish dates; fill with a muted corporate accent color. Bars that belong to the critical path should use a darker shade or a bold outline.
  • Place the exact start date at the left edge of each bar and the exact finish date at the right edge in 8‑point gray text. Optionally embed the task name inside the bar in white text if space allows; otherwise, put the task title flush left in the activity column.
  • Add thin milestone diamonds on the timeline where a bar ends and a downstream bar begins; connect related bars with subtle dependency arrows (1 pt, gray).
  • At the top, include a mini‑legend explaining bar colors (e.g., Critical Path, Non‑Critical, Completed) and milestone symbols.
  • Include a vertical “Today” rule in a contrasting color spanning the full grid height to show current status.
  • Keep plenty of white space between rows to ensure bars and labels do not touch. Use a consistent sans‑serif font and avoid 3‑D effects.

4  Business Questions This Slide Answers

  • Which tasks run in parallel, and where are schedule bottlenecks?
  • What is the critical path and its slack?
  • Are we on track today, behind, or ahead of plan?
  • When do key hand‑offs or phase gates occur?
  • How does a delay in one work‑stream cascade into others?

5  When to Use (Typical Situations)

  • Weekly project‑management stand‑ups or steering‑committee reviews
  • Integrated program plans spanning multiple work‑streams or vendors
  • Transformation roadmaps that require visibility into dependencies
  • Board updates that must highlight timeline risk and mitigation
  • Post‑mortems comparing baseline versus actual execution

6  Core Data Fields Required

  • Work‑stream or task name
  • Planned start date
  • Planned finish date (or duration)
  • Dependency logic (predecessor / successor)
  • Current date (for “Today” marker)

7  Optional / Advanced Data Fields
