2  One‑Sentence Purpose Statement
Answers “when and how much value will we actually capture?” by mapping the size and timing of each projected benefit beneath key milestones.

3  Visual Description (Designer Instructions)

  • Build a horizontal time axis (months or quarters) across the middle of a 16 × 9 slide.
  • Directly under each milestone date, draw a bar (or bubble) whose height/diameter is proportional to the benefit expected to land in that period—e.g., $‑savings, revenue, FTE reduction. Use a single corporate accent colour with 60 % opacity so overlaps remain readable.
  • Label the precise benefit value (e.g., “$3.2 M”, “‑15 FTE”) inside or just above each bar; keep text 9 pt.
  • If multiple benefit types exist (cost vs. revenue vs. risk), stack or cluster coloured bars/bubbles and include a small legend top‑right.
  • Add milestone markers on the axis itself (small diamonds or ticks) with brief labels above; connect any dependent milestones with thin arrows.
  • Shade the area left of “Today” in a pale tint to distinguish realized benefits from future ones, and optionally add a cumulative‑benefit line that steps up as bars accrue.
  • Reserve the top 15 % of the slide for a headline and KPIs (e.g., Total Expected = $42 M; Realized to Date = $11 M). Maintain ≥ 0.5 in margins so nothing is clipped.
  • Fonts: sans‑serif; benefit labels 9 pt; axis dates 10 pt; headline 16 pt bold.

4  Business Questions This Slide Answers

  • When will each benefit hit the P&L or KPI dashboard?
  • How large is each tranche of value, and what is the cumulative total?
  • Are we front‑loading or back‑loading benefits relative to plan?
  • Which milestones unlock the biggest value drops?
  • How far behind or ahead are we on realized benefits today?

5  When to Use (Typical Situations)

  • Transformation programs where executives track hard savings.
  • IT modernization showing phased decommission cost avoidance.
  • Post‑merger integration benefit‑tracking for synergy reviews.
  • ESG or sustainability initiatives converting carbon savings to value.
  • Agile product roadmaps linking feature waves to revenue uplift.

6  Core Data Fields Required

  • Milestone dates and descriptions.
  • Benefit value tied to each date (and type, if multiple).
  • Current date (“Today”) marker.
  • Optional cumulative‑benefit target.

7  Optional / Advanced Data Fields

  • Benefit category (cost, revenue, risk‑reduction) for colour segmentation.
  • Realized vs. forecast flag on each bar.
  • Confidence or probability of capture.
  • Owner accountable for benefit delivery.
  • Discounted cash‑flow (NPV) values shown in a secondary axis or tooltip.
