During the pandemic, there is a greater risk that a person key to the functioning of the organization may become incapacitated. Take steps to ensure the organization can continue to run if key individuals become sick.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Business owners may want to ensure that a trusted family member and one or more business associates have:

  • Keys to access physical spaces
  • Passwords to access systems
  • Current knowledge of order backlog and operational plans
  • Current understanding of accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Access to will and testament/estate plan
  • Access to Power of Attorney
  • Access to life insurance policies
  • Access to the entity’s operating agreement
  • Written guidance on how to operate the business in the event owner is incapacitated
