Revamp Your Brand in 2024

Paul Sims - Agile, Inc

If you are thinking of revamping your personal brand for the New Year, this article from Paul Sims may help you move in the right direction.

Last week, I wrote an article about the benefits of a polished personal brand. If you haven’t read it yet, click here to read it. It’s a quick, easy read.

This week I’m sharing 3 keys to get started revamping your personal brand. A lot of people overthink their personal brand and get lost deep in the details. The goal of this post is for you to get started. It won’t be perfect and you’ll likely tweak your personal brand over the year. Just get started and don’t stress so much about a few details that you don’t get started. As my mom used to tell me, “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.”

To revamp your personal brand, you need to follow 3 steps:

Figure out how you want to be seen.

Find out how you are seen now.

Make the changes based on how you want to be seen.

Step 1: Figure out the future you

Some people know exactly where they want to be. Others don’t.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who know exactly what you want to do, go ahead and write it down and move to the next step.

If you’re not sure what you want to do, you need to solve this. As the old saying goes, “If you don’t know where you want to go, then any road will get you there.” I think a great starting point is to take one of the personality or characteristic tests. You can take them online yourself, just Google ‘personality tests’ and you’ll have a wide array of choices. If you prefer someone to help you through the discovery process I’m a fan of 2 people who can help you with this: Kimberly Jackson or Beth Miller. After the personality test, start thinking about different jobs you’ve been interested in. What work do you like doing? Is it working in spreadsheets or talking to people? Working closely with other people or solo? Do you like being part of a large organization or being a big fish in a smaller organization? How influential do you want to be over certain parts of a company? You’ll be much more satisfied if you can figure out the work you want to do on a daily basis instead of a dream job title.

What motivates and inspires you? Watch the video below then think about what you really want to do next. What are you inspired to do?

How do you want people to see you? What type of person do you want to be? If you could name 3 people you look up to, who are they?

Those are some of the questions that can help you figure out the future you.

Take a few minutes and form some thoughts.  Maybe jot down notes for yourself.
